A blocked nose, running eyes, and itchy skin are common occurrences in allergy season and can make it difficult to get a comfortable night’s sleep. In addition to commercial allergy medications there are some measures you can take to diminish the effects of allergy season whilst you sleep. Here are our top 5 ways to beat those allergies and sleep peacefully:

1. Keep ‘em clean!

Pollen and dust can build up rapidly on your bed sheets so to reduce the amount of allergens in the room it is recommended to wash your sheets once a week.

2. Steam with eucalyptus

Try having a warm shower with eucalyptus oils. The steam from the shower will help to reduce nasal congestion and the eucalyptus oils will act as an anti-inflammatory which eases swelling of the respiratory tract to aid breathing.

3. Keep the windows closed

Although it might be tempting to ‘vent’ the bedroom, especially in the warmer months, having the windows open provides an easy entry for pollen into the room. If the temperature is just too much with the windows closed, try some of our tips to staying cool during the summer.

4. Anti-allergy innovations

If the pollen is just too much, try and control other allergens in the room. Anti-allergy pillows (link to product) are designed to prevent dust mites and reduce the allergens that lurk in our beds.

5. Out with the old

Over the years, dust, pollen, and other allergens can build up in your mattress and can cause irritation. Changing your mattress every 7-10 years can help lower the amount of allergens in your bedroom and improve your sleep.
